LARKANA, March 19: Health facilities in the district have run short of anti-rabies vaccine these days when the cases of dog bite are on the rise.

According to sources, there are six taluka hospitals, nine RHCs and 30 BHUs in Larkana district which had not been supplied the vaccine for the last three months.

District health officer Dr Khalil Katpar told this correspondent that the directorate of health had provided only six vials of the ARV to Larkana district last week.

Management of the Chandka Medical College Hospital, in response to a query from the district government, stated that the cases of dog bite were on the rise in Larkana district for the last two years due to variety of reasons.

In the year 2,002, 703 patients of dog bite came at the CMCH while in year 2,003 their number rose to 1,420. On the other hand, the district government has not launched a campaign of killing pye dogs.

A medical officer at the emergency of the CMCH said that 10 to 15 patients of pye-dog bite were coming to the department daily.
