KARACHI, March 18: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) on Thursday accused the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) of trying to sabotage development process in Karachi by creating hurdles for the city government and town administrations.

It also accused the MQM of intervention in election process for the appointment of officiating nazim of Malir Town, holding members of the Town Council hostage, and taking over the Town Office.

MMA MNAs Mohammad Hussain Mehanti, Abdul Sattar Afghani and Mohammad Laiq Khan deplored that the MQM was taking undue advantage of its being a component of the coalition government.

They claimed that MQM activists used force to prevent Al-Khidmat Group's councillors Imtiaz Jokhio and Zaman Khokhar from attending the council meeting. Meanwhile, in a press release, the group claimed that armed activists of the MQM continued their occupation of the Malir Town office on Thursday and did not allow any official to enter into it. -PPI
