TOBA TEK SINGH, March 9: The police have registered, on the order of Kamalia's additional district and sessions judge, a case against five men who kidnapped a woman and her son four months ago and gangraped her.

A resident of Mauza Chadharkay had stated in a petition filed with the AD&SJ that four months ago Nawaz and his four accomplices forcibly took away his wife and their 18 months son when he was not at home.

The accused kept the woman at different places and gangraped her. The Kamalia Saddar police had refused to register a case because the accused were influential men of the area. The Kamalia Saddar police registered the case on Tuesday.

DACOITS HELD: The police claimed on Tuesday to have arrested a gang of dacoits after an encounter near Chuttiana. Police parties were sent to a deserted place near Chuttiana on information that dacoits were looting passers-by on a link road.

The dacoits took refuge in the nearby fields and opened firing when they saw the police. They surrendered to the police when their ammunition ended. The police also recovered a car which the dacoits had taken away from Haji Munir Ahmed, an uncle of District Bar Association member Chaudhry Amin, a few days ago.
