DADU, March 8: Human Rights Commission of Pakistan Director Tanveer Jehan has said the government should repeal the Hudood Ordinance and enact a law to curb Karo-kari.

She was speaking at a seminar organized by a social welfare organization at the district council hall to mark the International Women's Day. Ms Jehan held feudal lords responsible for killings on the pretext of Karo-kari.

She said the government should abolish the Hudood Ordinance and make legislation against Karo-kari and other such practices which were claiming lives of women.

She said though President Gen Pervez Musharraf had announced 33 per cent seats for women in assemblies but no woman from the lower class had been made an MPA or MNA, saying all elected women were close relatives of different politicians.

Social workers Kulsoom, Almass, Wazir Ahmad, Abdul Fatah, Bakht Jamal Soomro, Shafi Mohammad Wafa Birhamani and Hakim Ali Shah also spoke on the occasion. About 20 social welfare organization and NGOs participated in the seminar which was attended by women doctors, teachers and social workers.
