LAHORE, March 5: Expressing displeasure over the continuous thin attendance at the Lahore District Council sessions, District Naib Nazim Farooq Amjad Mir on Friday ordered issuing show-cause notices to the habitual absentee members after the council failed to meet for lack of quorum.

The two-day council session was scheduled to commence at 9:30am and was also to be attended by District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood but only 14 female and 10 male members were present in the house when the proceedings started after 10:30am with District Naib in the chair. Majority of the members had not turned up as the council sessions always commenced at least two hours behind the schedule.

The District Naib Nazim adjourned the session for five minutes when one of the woman councillors pointed out that the house was not in quorum. He adjourned the session till 9:30am on Saturday (today) as the house was again not in quorum when it met after five minutes.

The District Naib Nazim later told Dawn that notices would be issued to the members remaining absent for the past three or four or more sessions continuously. He said that 20 to 22 members were likely to be issued notices under his directive.

Attention of the District Naib Nazim to the habitual absenteeism of some members had been drawn during a recent council meeting as well and he had ordered preparation of lists of such members.
