ISLAMABAD, May 18: Afghans, Sri Lankans, Bangladeshis and Burmese have been exempted from the data of “immigrants population” which the police have begun collecting throughout the country, official source said on Monday.

The source said the government had decided to use its intelligence network in the second phase of its information gathering campaign to verify the lists prepared by the police of foreigners residing in Pakistan.

The intelligence network would begin work in this regard after the two-week deadline given to the police by the government.

It has been decided that after the May 30 deadline, if any immigrant — barring Afghans, Sri Lankans, Bangladeshis and Burmese — is not listed by the police, the station house officers (SHOs) concerned would face dismissal from service and the senior superintendent of police (SSP) will be served with “displeasure notice”, the source said.

The swoop against illegal immigrants has already been launched and a large number of people have been picked up.

Each SHO will have to submit certificates containing particulars of foreigners in his area and assuring the home department that no illegal immigrant is living in his area, the sources said.
