TOBA TEK SINGH, May 18: The awarding of property rights to dwellers of Kutcha Abadis will be rather impossible on Aug 14 this year, as it was announced earlier by the provincial government.
There is a heavy backlog regarding matters like inclusion of leftover names for dwelling units, correction in survey lists, mis-spelled dwellers’ names, incorrect entries of parentage of the dwellers and their NIC numbers and the measurement of area under occupation of the dwellers.
To expedite these paper works, the Punjab government had set up implementation committees in all districts comprising tehsil Nazim (in urban areas), union council Nazim concerned, deputy district officer (revenue) and district officer development.
These committees were directed to hold at least two meetings in a month to correct errors in the record of Kutcha Abadis, but the meetings could not be convened in most of the districts.
An official of the tehsil council told this correspondent that though elected representatives had reached on fixed dates to attend meetings, the DDO (revenue) and DOD took no interest in this regard.
TEACHER DIES: A teacher was killed on Saturday when enraged students of nearby government schools pelted stones on a bus on the Kamalia-Chichawatni Road at Chak 738.
Students were waiting for the transport at a bus stop. In the meantime, the bus came but as it was already overloaded the driver did not stop the bus. Upon this, the students started throwing stones on the bus, forcing the driver to halt it. A school teacher, Gul Muhammad Khan, who was travelling in the bus came out of it to convince the students not to repeat the act. As the vehicle moved again, the students started pelting stones on it and one of the stones hit the teacher. He sustained serious injuries and died on the way to Kamalia THQ Hospital.
Kamalia Saddar police have registered a case and have taken into custody some suspected students.
