LAHORE, May 18: None of the Water and Sanitation Agency employees has bothered to furnish an explanation for the existence of around 50,000 unauthrized water supply connections detected during a survey conducted a few months ago.

Notices were served on 219 inspectors and meter readers of the agency to explain as to why they failed to report the existence of such a large number of illegal connections in their areas. The time allowed for furnishing explanations has passed but no official has responded to the notice.

A majority of the officials involved in the corruption are of the view that nobody can ‘harm’ them as they had cast votes in favour of President Gen Musharraf in the referendum.
