ISLAMABAD: Filling station sealed

Published February 28, 2004

ISLAMABAD, Feb 27: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Friday sealed a filling station at Embassy Road on the directives of Lahore High Court, a CDA official said.

The official said the owner of the filling station, Mr Ismail, was in litigation with the authority over payment of new rent after the expiry of the lease in 2002. The land of the filling station belonged to the CDA Staff Welfare Committee and was allotted to Mr Ismail in 1971 on 33-year lease.

Mr Ismail had been paying a rent of Rs12,000 per year to the authority. However, after the expiry of the lease, he was asked to pay Rs100,000 per month if he wanted to extend the contract. However, the owner refused to accept the new deal.

Later on, he got a stay order from the court of the district and sessions judge causing the authority to move the Lahore High Court. The LHC directed Mr Ismail to pay Rs20,000 as rent to the authority, but he refused to accept it.
