Kuwaiti MPs to grill minister

KUWAIT CITY, May 18: Kuwait’s Islamic Constitutional Movement (ICM) and the Popular Action Movement (PAM) on Saturday threatened to grill Finance Minister Yousef al Ibrahim, accusing him of incompetence.

In a press statement MP Hussain Al Qallaf said the members of the ICM and PAM were agreed on one point _ to grill the minister _ and refused to make a deal with the government to drop the grilling move in exchange for acceptance of some popular demands.

“We are not concerned with government plans to abort the grilling. The only way to avoid the grilling is for the government to take self-corrective actions,” Hussain added.

He said the ball was now in the government’s court and hoped that it would take appropriate measures in the direction of true reforms.

The MPs intensified their attacks against Yousef Al Ibrahim , after a bill amending the existing social security law was recently returned to the parliament because it poses a serious threat to the budget.
