Income Tax official nabbed

KARACHI, Feb 23: The National Accountability Bureau, on Monday, arrested an additional commissioner of the Income Tax Department for allegedly accumulating assets through unknown means of income.

According to the NAB Sindh, Sajjad Ahmed, additional commissioner of the Income Tax, Corporate Region, Karachi, was picked up on charges of 'living beyond means and accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income'.

The inquiry revealed that the suspect had been leading a lavish lifestyle. He possessed assets worth millions of rupees, which included a luxury bungalow in Defence Housing Authority's Phase-V, another in Lahore and three plots in Rawalpindi. The suspect also held foreign currency accounts in various banks.

The bureau said that the family of the suspect went on foreign trips many times in the past to Europe, the USA, and Saudi Arabia. The suspect would be produced before the Accountability Court in Karachi on Tuesday for obtaining remand for further investigation.
