LAHORE, Feb 19: Holding the armed forces responsible for the crises Pakistan is facing on Afghan, Kashmir, extremism and nuclear issues, the ANP has urged the government to take all political parties -- especially the moderate ones -- into confidence for formulating a joint strategy for sailing the country to safe waters.

"An individual cannot cope with the gravity of the current situation so it is necessary that the whole nation is taken along to counter any threat in the future," ANP secretary-general Ehsan Wyne said.

Talking to reporters here on Thursday, he said the MMA government in the NWFP province must be restricted from sheltering the people allegedly re-organizing Taliban and Al Qaeda in border areas of Afghanistan.

However, opposing any undemocratic action against the provincial government, he said that religious extremism, cultivated by the US and Pakistan governments in the 80s, was a threat to integrity of the country.

Seeking more powers for the incumbent civilian set-up, Mr Wyne said an increased role of the parliament was necessary for utilizing collective wisdom of the nation at this critical juncture of time.

He held a handful of bureaucrats, army generals and past rulers as well as scientists responsible for nuclear proliferation for personal gains which endangered country's atomic programme besides its integrity.

Urging the masses not to be emotionally blackmailed on these issues, he opposed the handing over of guilty Pakistanis to any other state. "Pakistan is a sovereign state and its authorities must act accordingly instead of formulating national policies on the basis of personal relations and gains."
