SIALKOT, Feb 16: The district police arrested on Sunday night four hardened criminals following an encounter in Bela jungles along the Chenab (across Head Marala). This was claimed by District Police Officer Nisar Ahmad Saroya while talking to newsmen here on Monday.

He said the arrested men, who were identified as Akram alias Akru, Riaz alias Riaju, Ijaz Ahmad alias Jaja and Muhammad Khan alias Nazim of Phaku Gang, had killed four Jalalpur Jattan police officials in Bela jungles (Gujrat district) about two months ago.

He said the team had recovered four kalashnikovs, rifles and other arms and ammunition from them. He added that more arrests were expected within days, as the arrested men were being investigated.

Three unidentified armed men looted gold ornaments, cash and other valuables worth of Rs100,000 from all the passengers of a wagon (No LR 1152) near Chararwala village (Pasrur tehsil) on Sialkot-Pasrur Road on Monday.

The dacoits, who had embarked from Panawala Thaiya bus stop, held up all the passengers and fled away after looting them. They also thrashed Ramazan, Ashfaq Butt and Pervaiz on resistance.

Pasrur police were investigating. Five dacoits looted dozens of labourers and industrial workers in Aadamkey Cheema-Wassankey village near the boys high school on Sunday evening.

Sharif, Aslam, Asif, Majeed, Arshad, Faqeer, Asghar, Umer and Sadaqat Ali were thrashed by dacoits on resistance. The dacoits tied them with ropes and fled away after throwing them into the fields.

Four dacoits looted gold ornaments, cash and electronic goods worth of Rs150,000 from the house of landlord Sajjad in Gojra village in Daska tehsil. Two armed motorcyclists snatched gold ornaments and cash from Younas and his wife near Kotli Jandu-Motra village and fled away. Police have registered separate cases, with no arrest.
