PESHAWAR, Feb 13: The provincial government discussed different aspects of the Police Order 2000 and finalized its suggestions to be submitted to the federal government here on Friday.
Chief Minister Akram Durrani, while presiding over a meeting in this regard at the Frontier House here, said that steps would be taken to make the police force more effective and people- friendly.
Senior Minister Sirajul Haq, Chief Secretary Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi, IGP Rafat Pasha, Home Secretary Adul Karim Qasuria and other high ranking officials also attended the meeting.
The chief minister said that the performance of Frontier police was good and steps were being taken to further improve it. Mr Durrani said that funds had been allocated for the welfare of policemen, heirs of martyred policemen and construction of police stations.
NDP PROJECTS: Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has said that the funds received from the Centre and donor agencies would not be allowed to be wasted in corruption and commissions.
The government, he said, would ensure transparent utilization of these funds for welfare-oriented projects. He said this while presiding over a briefing on National Drainage Programme here on Friday.
Emphasizing on the timely completion of projects being executed under the NDP, the chief minister said that officials involved in corruption and kick-backs would be punished.
Provincial Irrigation Minister Hafiz Akhtar Ali, secretaries of irrigation and finance and other officials were also present on the occasion. Mr Durrani also directed officials to take immediate steps for resolving water-related problems in various districts of the province.
TREE PLANTATION: Akram Khan Durrani said efforts were needed to plant more trees to ensure a clean environment in the province.
He said this while speaking at a function after formally inaugurating the spring tree plantation campaign at the Shahi Bagh here on Friday. Provincial ministers, legislators, Peshawar district nazim, Town-I Nazim and government functionaries attended the ceremony.
He urged government officials, ulema and elected representatives to participate in the tree plantation campaign, adding it was vital to make the national campaign a success.
He cautioned illegal logging, saying people involved in it would be taken to task. He said that the forest department would be empowered to tackle people involved in deforestation.
CONDOLENCE: Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of Abdus Sattar Lalika, Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistani, who died of cardiac arrest on Friday.
In a condolence message, the chief minister prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the members of the bereaved family to bear this loss with patience and fortitude.
