MITHI, Jan 29: The Tharparkar District Council on Wednesday adopted a resolution demanding that the government should construct the Karoonjher dam near the Nagarparkar town for storing rainwater.

Dalpatrai tabled the resolution, pointing out that a huge quantity of water of Bhatiani, Gorirdro and other rivulets flowing down Karoonjher mountains during monsoons went waste in Raan Kutchh.

He said the government should construct a dam to store the water which could irrigate 1.5 million acres in the Nagarparkar taluka, besides ensuring the availability of potable water in the area.

Rijhumal in his resolution said the Tharparkar district lacked communication facilities and demanded that Nadra should extend the date for submitting forms for Computerized National Identity Cards as most of the residents of the district had not obtained CNICs.

The council adopted the resolution. It also adopted a resolution of Bherulal, who criticzed appointments of non-local people in the family planning department in Thar, saying it was an injustice with the local people.
