KHAAR: 3 die in snowstorm

KHAAR, Jan 18: At least three people were killed and two injured when roofs and walls of houses caved in in different areas of the Bajaur Agency during heavy rain and snowfall on Saturday and Sunday.

A severe snowstorm started on Friday night and continued for about 36 hours, disrupting communications facilities in the agency. The hilly areas received about two feet of snow.

A man, Aslam Kham, and his sister, Zainab, were killed and their father Juma Din injured when the roof of the room in which they were sleeping collapsed at the Sro Wano village in the Salarzai subdivision.

At the Shahi Tangi village in the Mamond subdivision, a 10-year-old boywas buried and two other children injured when the boundary wall of their house caved in. Roads to Afghanistan and the Ghakhi and Nawa border crossing points were also closed.
