LAHORE, Jan 18: Lahore Electric Supply Company Chief Executive Engineer Zahid Bashir has opposed the lifting of the ban on kite-flying in the provincial metropolis.

He was speaking at the workers' conference on performance and safety at work at the Bakhtiar Labour Hall here on Sunday. The Lesco chief said that kite flying should not be allowed to prevent frequent interruptions in power supply and saving the costly electric home appliances of the consumers from being burnt.

He said that Lesco attached great importance to the health and safety of its workers and continued to provide them necessary safety equipment for prevention of accidents work.

He advised the workers not to work without the tools and pliers provided to them for maintenance of power supply system. The Lesco chief called upon the workers to play their role in detection of power supply theft. The company would not only provide them complete protection but also give a part of the recoveries made on this account as reward to them.

He said that the employees would be posted near their homes and further numbering of meters would be dispensed with. Pakistan Wapda Hydro-Electric Central Labour Union Secretary General Khurshid Ahmed demanded restoration of efficiency and crew allowances, interim relief of BS-10 to 15 employees, recruitment quota of the children of employees and regularization of the service of contract and workcharged employees assigned the duties of permanent nature.
