PM revives quota for sportsmen

Published January 16, 2004

ISLAMABAD, Jan 15: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali on Thursday revived one per cent quota reserved for sportsmen for admission in schools, colleges and universities of the federal and provincial governments.

These seats should be filled on merit through competition among the sportsmen and athletes, he added. He was presiding over a meeting at the Prime Minister's House.

It was decided that for these admissions even those obtaining 3rd Division in examination would be eligible, provided they were outstanding sportsmen. However, no favouritism or nepotism would be tolerated in this regard and admission would be given on the basis of their skill and expertise in various sports.-APP
