DADU: 200 Chakkis closed in Dadu

DADU, Jan 15: Some 200 Chakkis and flour mills remained closed on Wednesday in different towns of the district due to a shortage of wheat. Chakkis and flour mills remained closed in Dadu, Mehar, Khairpur Nathan Shah , Sehwan, Johi, Bhan, Khudabad, Phulji Station, Sita Road, Radhan, Thariri Mohabbat and Nau Goth due to a shortage of wheat at godowns of food department.

In the wake of flour crisis, the traders and shopkeepers are selling flour for Rs15 per kg. The Dadu Flour Mills Association leaders Kamran Shaikh, Sikandar Lakhair said the food department had provided 16,000 bags of wheat to the flour mills in the district in December after receiving a bribe.

SUSPENDED: Sindh food secretary Mir Mohammad Parhiar on Wednesday suspended district food controller Ayub Rind on charges of unfair distribution of the wheat among the chakkis and flour mill owners.

CLASSES BOYCOTTED: On the call of the Primary Teachers' Association, school teachers boycotted their classes here on Wednesday to protest against the executive district officer (education). The teachers also took out a procession from the office of the EDO to the local press club. They held a demonstration outside the press club. Speaking to the protesters, PTA leaders said the EDO hadcancelled promotion orders of 200 higher secondary school teachers and terminated the services of 300 teachers.

DEMO: Workers of the Pakistan People's Party (Shaheed Bhutto) staged a rally here on Wednesday to demand the arrest of the killers of party activist Ali Sonara.
