MIRPURKHAS, Jan 6: Ten sugarcane growers were injured when guards of the Tharparkar Sugar Mill beaten up growers who staged a sit-in outside the mill on Tuesday to protest against nonpayment of their dues.

Hundreds of sugarcane growers took part in the protest and blocked the Kot Ghulam Mohammad-Samaro Road for one hour. Raising slogans against the mill management, the protestors demanded early payment of their dues.

They exchanged hot words with the mill guards who beaten up them. One of the injured protesters, Mohammad Younus Bhurgari, was admitted to the Kot Ghulam Mohammad Taluka Hospital.

Later, officers of the mill held talks with representatives of the protestors and assured them that the management would conduct an inquiry into the matter and dismiss the guards concerned.

PARAMEDICS: Leaders of the Sindh Paramedical Staff Welfare Association have denounced the attack on Niaz Jani Detho of the association by miscreants and expressed their resentment over the incident.

The district organizer, Sindh Paramedical Staff Welfare Association, Nazeer Ahmed Detho, president SPSWA, Civil Hospital Unit, Mohammad Umar Daudpota, general secretary Abdul Waheed Khokhar and others, in a joint statement, deplored the unprovoked attack.
