PESHAWAR, Dec 31: Former corps commander of Peshawar, Lt-Gen Mumtaz Gul, has been appointed vice-chancellor of the University of Peshawar for next two years, said an official notification issued by Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah here on Tuesday.

Gen Mumtaz Gul, also a former chairman of the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC), will remain on the post till Dec 31, 2005. The outgoing vice-chancellor retired last month after serving as VC for three years.

The incumbent vice-chancellor held meeting with his outgoing counterpart Dr Zulfiqar Hussain Gilani and discussed with him various issues concerning the varsity. Dr Gilani briefed him about the university affairs. General Gul, 63, has assumed the charge of his new assignment.
