GILGIT, Feb 24: The members of the Executive Committee of the Grand Peace Jirga were asked on Tuesday to play their role in bringing about durable peace in Gilgit.District Magistrate Gilgit, Sardar Saifullah Dogar while talking to this reporter said they had assured the administration they would work for peace if the religious leaders, arrested under section 16 of Maintenance of Public Order, released.

District Magistrate said administration was keeping an eye on law and order situation and it would be appropriate for the miscreants to live peacefully so that the area could be developed.

He said that Jirga people had been asked to visit the miscreants and warn them that their activities might jeopardise peace in the region.

“The administration will take its course according to law and this might include detention of anti-social elements,” he said.

He said more names of notables were being incorporated in the Jirga.
