HYDERABAD, Feb 23: The Awami Tehrik at a meeting of its central body decided to participate in the lawyers’ long march.

It was decided in the meeting that the party would set up reception camps on National Highway and in different cities of Sindh to encourage lawyers and others going to participate in the march.

The meeting discussed political and economic situation of the country and said that the government was following imperialist and anti-people policies.

It criticized the government for refusing to restore deposed chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and other deposed judges and for not doing away with the 17th constitutional amendment.

The Pakistan People’s Party had forgotten promises it had made to people during elections, creating unrest and anger among the people, the meeting said.

The president of the party, Abdul Qadir Ranto, presided over the meeting.

FLOWER SHOW: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has invited regional and district heads of federal, provincial and district governments to attend a meeting on Spring Flower Show scheduled for Wednesday at his secretariat.

In his invitation to different organisations, the nazim highlighted importance of the flower show and said that the purpose of this exercise was to revive old glories of the historic Hyderabad city.

He said that the district government was holding the fourth spring flower show 2009 from March 13 in a bid to revive the old tradition of organising flower shows.

The nazim said that increasing environmental pollution had made it imperative to promote horticulture to combat the menace of pollution and help create healthy atmosphere.

It would also disseminate knowledge about how to improve gardening and maintain greenery, and provide incentives to individuals to keep the atmosphere healthy and pleasant, he added.

The nazim recalled that thousands of people from Hyderabad and its adjourning areas had participated in and visited the last year’s flower show and hopefully the forthcoming flower show would also be a success.
