The date for submission of forms and fee for the admission to MS/PhD programme at the University of Karachi has already been extended to February 7.

An official of the university said that an announcement regarding the starting of MS/PhD classes would be made later.

According to the guidelines announced by the registrar of the Karachi University, any discrepancy and claim of eligibility in the admission should be referred to the departmental research committee (DRC) comprising chairperson and all research supervisors, who would send their recommendations to the board of advanced study and research (BASR).

In this regard, the departmental research committee should be functional in each department and smooth functioning of the committee is the responsibility of the chairperson of the department.

The selection of the research or academic supervisor after or before the course work will be at the discretion of the DRC.

Adjunct faculty may be inducted to act as supervisor/co-supervisor of MS/PhD students if recommended by the departmental research committee.

Faculty members of the Karachi University, cooperative teachers and employees of the university may be exempted from study leave if recommended by chairperson/director in consultation with the departmental research committee.

It would be at the discretion of the teacher whether s/he would like to avail this facility or not.

KUTS to observe black day

The Karachi University Teachers’ Society (KUTS) has announced that teachers of the university will observe a ‘black day’ on Saturday to voice their concern over the inordinate delay in convening a meeting of the university’s academic council, adds our Staff Reporter.

In a statement issued here on Monday, KUTS president Dr Aqeel Ahmed and secretary Dr Shakeel Farooqui said that teachers of the university would take classes but would wear black armbands on Saturday.

Deploring that the university administration has neither delegated powers to most of the departmental research committees, particularly those belonging to the faculty of science, nor the committees have, so far, been, assigned their work, they demanded immediate convening of the academic council’s meeting to help resolve issues concerning the MS and PhD programmes.

Terming the KU registrar’s decision of extending the registration date to Feb 7 ‘a decision in haste’, they asked that the departmental research committees which have not yet been assigned their work could accomplish their task by Feb 7.
