GILGIT, Jan 12: Five military personnel were killed and one was seriously injured when their pick-up was hit by a boulder at Shangus Pari.

Inspector General of Police Col (retd) Farman Ali told Dawn on Monday that the injured military personnel had been taken to the Jaglote hospital.

The police chief said the site of the accident was the deadliest point between Gilgit and Skardu and several fatal incidents had taken place there in the past. The area is about 70 kilometres from Gilgit.

The government has approved a project to widen the road to avert such accidents but nothing has been done so far.
