ISLAMABAD, Dec 31: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi will attend an emergency meeting of OIC ministers in Jeddah on Saturday (Jan 3).

The meeting will discuss the situation arising out of the Israeli aggression in Gaza Strip. The ministerial session, besides charting out a unified response by the Organisation of the Islamic Conference to the Israeli aggression, will seek an immediate ceasefire and entry of medical personnel and humanitarian supplies into the Gaza Strip “through all access points”.

In a statement on the situation in Gaza, Mr Qureshi had warned that it could lead to an escalation of tension in the Middle East and undermine efforts for resolution of the Palestinian issue.

OIC Secretary General Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, in a statement at a meeting, said: “This tragedy necessitates a diligent, serious and effective Islamic action to bring it to an end and relieve the Palestinian people of its impact.”
