India criticises Israeli airstrikes

NEW DELHI, Dec 31: India on Wednesday urged Israel to halt the air strikes that have killed at least 390 Palestinians and injured thousands in the Gaza Strip.

“We have strongly criticised that attack and we have urged Israel to stop those attacks,” Home Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram told reporters.

Israeli warplanes hammered Gaza for a fifth day on Wednesday and Islamists retaliated by firing rockets into Israeli territory.—AFP
