Khuhro assails Ghinwa’s remarks

Published December 31, 2008

KARACHI, Dec 30: Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Khuhro has criticised the remarks made by PPP (SB) chairperson Ghinwa Bhutto against President Asif Ali Zardari.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Mr Khuhro questioned the democratic credentials of Ghinwa Bhutto and said that she had chosen to attack President Zardari, instead of targeting dictators like Gen Ziaul Haq and Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf. He also accused her of supporting Gen (retd) Musharraf at a time when Ms Benazir Bhutto was leading the struggle for restoration of democracy.

Mr Khuhro said that had Ms Ghinwa commanded any respect of the people merely because she was a daughter-in-law of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, she would have secured their votes. The fact that she didn’t amply proved how much respect people had for her, he said. He pointed out that even back in 1996, a PPP worker like himself had defeated her in the election.
