Purohit remanded in custody

NEW DELHI, Dec 29: A special court in Mumbai on Monday remanded in judicial custody till Jan 6 Lt-Col Shrikant Purohit and nine other accused for their involvement in the Malegaon blasts.

The court also granted custody of Sameer Kulkarni, one of the founder members of the Abhinav Bharat Hindu outfit, to the Madhya Pradesh police which is investigating his role in instigating a mob to attack a church in Jabalpur and putting it on fire.

The special court also issued non-bailable warrants against three absconding accused in the Malegaon blasts case.

The prosecution had also sought police custody of another accused, Sudhakar Chaturvedi, an active member of Abhinav Bharat, for verifying his several bank accounts. But the court directed the prosecution to seek his custody on January 6.—APP
