KHAR: Four injured in Bajaur shelling

Published December 30, 2008

KHAR, Dec 29: Four civilians sustained injuries on Monday when shells fired by militants and security forces hit their houses in Bajaur tribal region.

Militants fired missiles at Khar, the regional headquarters of the tribal agency, from the mountainous area of Kohi Mor, some 12 kilometres from here.

Sources said that militants fired twelve missiles with some intervals on Khar and adjoining areas creating fear and panic among the residents. However, most of the missiles narrowly missed the populous Civil Colony and landed at a distance of just one furlong.

One of the missiles hit a house damaging it partially while the second missile fell on a house in Fajja area, injuring two inmates.

The militants have been targeting Khar for the last one week with missiles and rockets from their bunkers in mountainous range of Kohi Mor, a stronghold of Taliban.

The security forces also pounded militant hideouts and bunkers at the area with mortar and cannon shells.

One mortar shell fell on the house of a local in Mano village, some 12 kilometres from Khar, injuring two inmates.
