Aqeel to lock horns with Asim in final

ISLAMABAD, Dec 27: Aqeel Khan and Asim Shafik will lock horns in the final of the National Clay Court Tennis Championship after winning their respective semi-finals at the PTF Complex on Saturday.

Aqeel thrashed Abid Ali in straight sets by playing some powerful back-hand shots. He lifted the first set 6-3.

Abid failed to pick even some easy shots in the second set and lost it 0-6.

In the other semi-final, Asim Shafik walloped Tanvir Ashiq after a tough fight. He won 7-5, 7-6(8).

Meanwhile, Aqeel Khan and Rasheed Malik claimed the men’s doubles title by trouncing Asim Shafik and Hameed-ul-Haq 6-3, 6-1.

In the boys’ U-17 semi-final, Heera Ashiq beat Faizan Khurram 6-1, 6-0.

Men’s singles:

Final: Aqeel Khan bt Abid Ali 6-3, 6-0; Asim Shafik bt Tanvir Ashiq 7-5, 7-6(8).

Boys’ U- 17:

Semi-finals: Heera Ashiq bt Faizan Khurram-6-1, 6-0; M. Waqas Malik bt M. Abid Mushtaq 6-0, 6-3.

Men’s doubles:

Final: Aqeel Khan/Rasheed Malik bt Asim Shafik/Hameed-ul-Haq 6-3, 6-1.
