Four golds up for grabs in Sindh Open

KARACHI, Dec 20: The Sindh Open badminton championship began at the PSB Coaching Centre on Saturday with some 100 male and female players from across the province fighting for the honours.

Four gold medals will be up for grabs in the men’s singles and doubles and women’s singles and doubles in the event which concludes on Tuesday.

The event is being held under the aegis of Sindh Badminton Association (SBA) in collaboration with the Sindh Sports Board (SSB) which has doled out Rs0.1 million.

The men’s singles has a draw of 64 while the women’s singles has attracted 32 players.

Men’s singles (first round):

Abdullah bt Sarmad 21-9, 21-11; Hasan Zaidi bt Rajesh 21-6, 21-8; Jawaid bt Adeel Qureshi 21-14, 22-20; Irfan Lateef bt M. Siddiq 21-16, 21-10.

Women’s singles (first round):

Faryal bt Mona 21-9, 21-17; Sofia Mughal bt Hamda 21-5, 21-2; Yusra bt Shazia 18-21, 21-8, 21-13; Varda bt Jaziba 21-7, 21-10.

Sunday’s fixtures:

Men’s singles, women’s singles 12.00noon; women’s doubles 2.00pm; men’s doubles 4.00pm.
