Expat found strangled

RAWALPINDI, Dec 17: An expatriate was found strangled outside government quarters in Ghazi Colony, Chaklala, on Wednesday, police said.

Forty-five years old Abdul Waheed, who was settled in Hong Kong, was in Pakistan on holidays. On Tuesday night he left his house but did not return.

Waheed’s body was found lying outside his house with a piece of rope around his neck early Wednesday morning. The postmortem confirmed that he had been strangled.

According to the police, Waheed had a land dispute with a person who might be involved in the murder. The body was handed over to his family after the autopsy.

A murder case has been registered with the Airport police on the complaint of the victim’s brother.

As many as 10 vehicles were either snatched or stolen from different parts of Rawalpindi and Islamabad during the last 24 hours, police said.

Waqas Ahmed’s motorbike was stolen from Waris Khan area, Mohammad Usman’s motorcycle was taken away from Banni, while Imran Khan and Ali Akbar lodged similar complaints of motorcycle theft with Waris Khan police.

Ijaz Pervez told Civil Lines police that his car was stolen from outside his home, while Mohammad Asif filed a complaint of car theft with Cantonment police.

Azhar Abbas’ van was stolen from Airport police area while Tariq Nazeer’s van was taken away by thieves from Gujar Khan.

Likewise, some gunmen snatched a car from its owner in the city while another mini-truck (IDF-4519) was snatched from its driver by gunmen in Tarnol area.

Meanwhile, SHO Chotala Ghulam Abbas was suspended on charges of illegally detaining and torturing an innocent citizen, a spokesman for the regional police officer, Rawalpindi, said on Wednesday.
