Abduction a mystery for police

Published December 8, 2008

NAROWAL, Dec 7: The Narowal police have failed to trace a man allegedly abducted for Rs2.6 million ransom some three months ago.

Shabbir Hussain, of Kandhala village in Rayya Khas police precincts, went to his fields in Sahowala village for farming on Sept 21. In the evening, the father of two left the fields for home but did not reach his residence.

Shabbir’s brother Muhammad Munir said that an unidentified caller phoned them two weeks after the abduction and demanded Rs2.6 million ransom. The abductors also threatened to kill Shabbir if the family did not pay the money.

He said that they reached the place told by the abductors to pay the ransom but the abductors did not turn up there.

He said they were ready to pay the ransom to save Shabbir’s life but the abductors were reluctant to receive the money and now they had stopped contacting the family for the past two weeks.

Shabbir’s father Abdul Ghani said that his two sons had sacrificed their lives in the Kargil operation in 1999 and the third one had been abducted.

He appealed to the chief minister to order officials concerned to make all out efforts to trace his son who is father of five-year-old Mariyam and three-year-old Abdullah.

SHO Muhammad Akram told Dawn that they had registered a case against unidentified suspects and making all efforts to trace Shabbir.

DPO Tariq Rustam Chohan said that it appeared that Shabbir had not been abducted by any one, rather he was only missing and the police were trying to trace him. Chohan said they would trace the man very soon.—Correspondent
