Committees to monitor paddy price

Published December 7, 2008

LAHORE, Dec 6: Sub-division level committees will be constituted to monitor and ensure procurement of paddy at Rs1,500 per 40 kilo by rice mills.

The committees would also ensure a transparent manner of paddy procurement in order to provide relief to rice growers, decided a meeting presided over by the Punjab agriculture minister here on Saturday.

A complaint cell would be established in the office of the respective deputy district officer (revenue) to redress complaints about rice procurement by mills in violation of agreement with Passco.

The DDO (revenue) would be the convener of the committee, comprising DDO (extension), a representative of police besides Passco nominee and a progressive grower of the tehsil concerned.—Staff Reporter
