PESHAWAR, Dec 5: Some unidentified outlaws blasted a school on the University Road here on Friday, officials said.

A police official said that dynamite had been planted in a washroom of the Police Public School, which went off at 8am, but no casualty was reported.

He said police had tightened security around the area and were checking the movement of suspected people. He said police had taken strong notice of the incident and taken it as a signal from militants. He said investigators would see how the material was taken to the school.

A bomb disposal squad official said the explosive was of low intensity and weighed about 80 grams.

MINGORA: A government middle school was blown up here late Thursday night.Suspected militants blew up the government school for boys in the Alam Gang area of the Khwazakhela tehsil late Thursday night.

The militants had planted improvised explosive device in the school. The building, its furniture and record were destroyed.

After this explosion, the number of destroyed schools in the region reached 124, including 84 for girls.

The security forces continued the search operation and targeted suspected militant hideouts in Charbagh, Khwazakhela and Matta tehsils with artillery shelling. However, no casualty was reported. Gunship helicopters also made low flights over different areas.

Meanwhile, the Taliban have declared a three-day unilateral ceasefire from Saturday in the Swat district in reverence of Eidul Azha. Their spokesman Muslim Khan said the Taliban would not carry out any action during this period.
