HYDERABAD, Oct 25: Five alleged swindlers were arrested by police near Khebar when they were trying to run away here on Thursday.

The swindlers had presented a document of Rs50 million at the Islamabad branch of Allied Bank here but suspecting something fishy, the bank officials informed the police.

Police sources said that the accused became suspicious, came out of the bank and sped away towards Hatri in a car (Honda Civic No AND-884).

They were chased by a police party which fired a burst on the tyres of the car as a result of which the car was stopped and the accused were arrested.

They were identified as Mohammad Naveed, resident of Karachi’s Ayesha Manzil, Faisal, resident of Karachi’s Gulshan-i- Iqbal, Mehboob Shah alias Pir Baboo, resident of Hala, Imran Jamali, resident of Balochistan presently living in Karachi’s Baldia Colony and Shabbir Ahmed Jatoi, resident of Larkana presently living in Pathan colony.

They are being interrogated by police to find out their involvement in other crimes.

SPLA POLLS: Mr. Khadim Hussain Khoso has been elected the president of Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association Hyderabad according to results announced by the association here on Thursday.

Prof Gul Sher Nabi, Mubeen-ur-Rehman, Aslam Pervez Khaskheli, Mohammad Farooq Pathan, Ghulam Sarwar Leghari, Ms Mehar Sultana Zaidi and Syed Badar Zaman Shah were elected vice president, general secretary, additional secretary, senior joint secretary, joint secretary, woman joint secretary and finance secretary respectively.

In the district elections, Ghazanfar Shah was elected president while Ghulam Hussain Soho, Ms Rukhsana Mughal, Ghulam Shabbir Bhutto, Irshad Ahmed, Miss Sarfaraz Arain and Mohammad Yameen were elected vice president, woman vice president, general secretary, joint secretary, woman joint secretary and finance secretary respectively.

ANTI-US DEMO: Over 50 activists of the National Labour Federation (NLF) staged a protest demonstration outside the Hyderabad press club here on Thursday against the American airstrikes on Afghanistan.

Speaking at the rally, NLF provincial president Rana Mehmood Ali Khan said that America claimed to be committed to eliminate terrorism from the globe but it was committing the worse type of terrorism.
