GHALANAI, Dec 4: A jirga of the Haleemzai tribe handed over 22 suspects, wanted to the government in cases of violence and militancy, to the political administration, and an illegal FM radio channel was closed here on Thursday.

The jirga of three sub-clans of Haleemzai, Kadikhel, Wali Beg and Hamzakhel, which was attended by a large number of tribal elders, Ghalanai assistant political agent Syed Ahmed Jan and Haleemzai tehsildar Mohammad Miraj, discussed measures for improving the law and order situation in the tribal region.

The jirga handed over 22 suspects out of the total 35 in the list given by the political demonstration to it. The jirga also submitted a surety of Rs1 million to the demonstration that the suspects would not indulge in anti-government activities and would remain faithful to the government.

The political administration also closed the broadcast of the illegal radio channel of a local religious figure in the Haleemzai area.

The next jirga would be held on Sunday.

The government has also issued directives for the closer of a refugee camp near a rest house in Michini. The main Peshawar-Bajaur highway remained closed for traffic, multiplying miseries of people, who travelled on foot to reach their destination. —Correspondent
