Ombudsman office staff block road

Published December 2, 2008

LAHORE, Dec 1: Employees of the Punjab ombudsman’s office staged a demonstration here on Monday against termination of their services.

The employees whose contract expired on Sunday owing to inordinate delay in induction of new ombudsman into office blocked traffic on Bank Road after being informed that they could not continue their work. Traffic was also disrupted on other roads due to the blockade of Bank Road.

Nearly 300 employees of Punjab ombudsman’s offices at Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi have lost their jobs due to over three months delay in induction of new ombudsman in office. Fate of more than 5000 complaints pending with the ombudsman’s offices has also become uncertain.
