Shin upsets Lattrea

ISLAMABAD, Nov 26: Shin Jung Yoon of Korea created an upset when she defeated top seed of the tournament M De Lattrea from Portugal in a well contested two set match in the first ITF Pakistan Women Future Tennis Circuit played at the PTF tennis complex on Wednesday.

Shin, eliminated Lattrea in a two set match 6-3, 6-4. In the first set the score went up to two all as both the players held their respective services.

Shin, won the first set 6-2 breaking Lattrea’s sixth game hitting some good baseline shots. The score went up to 4-4 in the second set at this stage as Shin played some good volleys and won it 6-4.

Fourth seed Kim Hae Sung from Korea eliminated A Venkataraman from India with out conceding a single game in both the sets at 6-0, 6-0. Kim will now face compatriot Shin Jung Yoon in the semi-final.

Fifth seed Kolanki Kuamari from India made an other upset of the tournament eliminating compatriot Goswami Parul, second seed, in a thrilling two set match 6-3, 6-3. In the last quarter-final Cenkatesha Poojashree from India beat Shivika Burman 6-0, 6-2.

Singles (quarter-finals): Shin Jung Yoon (Korea) bt M De Lattre (Portugal) 6-3, 6-4; Kim Hae-Sung (Korea) bt A. Venkataraman (India) 6-0, 6-0; P Venkatesha (India) bt Shivika Burman (India) 6-0, 6-2; K. Solanki (India) bt Parul Goswami (India) 6-3, 6-3.

Doubles (quarter-finals): Kim Hae Sung / Shin Jung Yoon (Korea) bt Sarah Mahboob Khan (Pakistan) / Pang Yang (China) 6-3, 6-2; Shivika Burman / Kumari Solanki (India) bt Natasha Afridi / Ushna Suhail (Pakistan) 6-0, 6-2; Archana Venkataraman/Arthi Venkataraman (India) bt Kesica Jayapalan / Anushree Thammanna (India) 6-3, 6-3.
