PESHAWAR, Oct 25: Chairman Sarhad Development Authority Javed Iqbal has been appointed as secretary home & tribal affairs in the NWFP government on Thursday.

Javed replaces Karim Kasuria as home secretary, whose posting to a new assignment awaits governor’s approval.

Kasuria is the third home secretary to lose his job since the military takeover in October in 1999 and the second since Lt-Gen Iftikhar Hussain Shah became governor last year.

Mr Iqbal brings with him vast experience as a DMG officer and had was political agent, Kurram and Khyber Agency, secretary to the governor and secretary housing & physical planning before taking charge as chairman SDA for a brief period.

His posting comes at a time of growing unrest in the tribal areas, particularly in Malakand division.
