Published November 12, 2008

DERA GHAZI KHAN, Nov 11: Pakistan Railways needs foreign financial assistance to initiate new projects as it is facing a Rs29 billion deficit.

Railway Board chairman Kashif Murtaza said this here on Tuesday during his visit to the local railway station to inspect facilities being provided to passengers.

He said to overcome losses, the department needed massive foreign funding so that new projects could be initiated. He said the shortest rail link between Multan and DG Khan via Ghazi Ghat Bridge was under consideration.

Mr Murtaza said the public demands like construction of an overhead bridge at the station, provision of Sui gas to railway colony and a new train service from Rajanpur to Lahore would soon be met. —Correspondent
