KARACHI: Former SHO released on bail

Published November 9, 2008

KARACHI, Nov 8: A division bench of the Sindh High Court has granted bail to a former station house officer of Ferozabad police station, inspector Shah Nawaz Khan, facing charges of corruption in a National Accountability Bureau reference.

The bench comprising Justice Qaiser Iqbal and Justice Mehmood Alam Rizvi passed the judgement on Saturday.

NAB filed the reference on July 17, 2006, alleging that inspector Nawaz had received Rs4.5 million bribe to release three accused — Najam Yusuf, Alam Farooq and Hasham — in case (FIR No.153/2001) lodged at Ferozabad police station.

Nawaz’s counsel submitted that two years and four months had been passed, but the court had failed to examine prosecution witnesses.

Secondly, the applicant was operated for coronary artery bypass on Oct 29, 2008 at the civil hospital and doctors had advised him complete rest for six month, he maintained.

The court granted bail to the applicant on surety of Rs500,000.—PPI
