Woman sells off daughter

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, Nov 7: Yet in another heartless deal, a four-year- old girl, after being taken away by her own mother, was sold twice and eventually wedded to a 22-year-old man.

The father of the child told this to journalists at the press club here on Friday.

He said that he got married to Bashiran Kalhoro of Dali Mori some 10 years ago and about three years back, his wife took separation through court of law. The couple had a daughter, Nasreen, who was given into father’s custody on payment of Rs45,000 to girl’s mother and maternal grandfather.

Abdul Hakeem said that some six months back Nasreen’s mother and grandfather took her away when he was not at home. They sold my four-year-old daughter to one Qurban Khokar who later sold her to one Dholo Khokar. About four months ago, the second man solemnised Nikah with my daughter, he alleged.

He accused Bhirya police of refusing to register an FIR and when he filed an application before the justice of peace sessions judge Naushahro Feroze, police agreed to, but again it backed out.

He has appealed to higher police authorities and Sindh government to take notice of the incident and dispense justice.

When contacted, Bhirya town police SHO and WHC were not available for comments.
