‘Report’ against 89 Toba lawyers

Published November 7, 2008

TOBA TEK SINGH, Nov 6: City police on Thursday registered a report (not an FIR) against 89 lawyers, including the DBA president and secretary-general, for ransacking and locking the district and sessions judge’s courtroom during their protest on Nov 3.

A source said that 18 lawyers were nominated, but no section was mentioned in the report.

It said that the report had been sealed and would be produced before the Lahore High Court as the LHC had ordered the Punjab IG to take action against the lawyers involved in locking of courtrooms.

When contacted, DBA president Mian Shoaib Muhammad said that he had the information about the registration of a police report.

About the difference between an FIR and a report, the DBA president said: “Sections are settled in the FIR and action is taken, but no action can be taken in the case of a report”.
