HYDERABAD, Oct 31: The Government Handicraft Institute for Women was opened in Affandi town on Friday. District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil while inaugurating it said that the cost of institute came to Rs20 million which was spread on 14,350sqft. He said that this was the only technical institute throughout the province aimed at providing technical education to women

Around Rs5 million has been spent on the acquisition of equipment and instruments for 14 sections, he said adding that the institute will award matriculation certificates to female students for enabling them to seek admission in higher institutions.

Although, many other technical organisations are working under the district government but this was unique as qualified females would be able to earn for themselves and support others.

He said that the handicrafts prepared here would be displayed in exhibitions to provide female students some financial freedom. Students, he said, will be imparted training in fine arts and computers, as well.

Appreciating the abilities of women, Nazim said that they were capable of competing with men in every field, besides carrying out efficiently their responsibilities as wives, sisters and daughters. He said that no country or society could progress without the active participation of women.

City Taluka Nazim Ghulam Shabbar Chishti, Chairman Works Committee Munawar Khanzai, officials of the district government, UC nazims, councilors and instructors of the institute attended the inaugural ceremony.
