LAHORE, Oct 30: A nine-year-old daughter of a journalist was knocked down and killed by a school van in Ghausia Colony of Iqbal Town on Thursday.

The victim was identified as Aqsa Bashir, daughter of Bashir Lashari.

Mr Lashari told Dawn that his daughter had left for a nearby shop to purchase some grocery in the afternoon. As she reached the corner of the street near her house, a school van driver, who had come there to drop a child, hit her while reversing his vehicle.

He said his daughter was taken to Sheikh Zayed Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Mr Lashari said he would decide about the legal action after returning from burial at his native Lasharian village near Okara. He said his daughter was the youngest among his four children and a student of class-III.

Wahdat Colony police said the father of the victim refused to take action against the van driver.
