BUNER, Oct 30: Seasoned politician and four-time elected MNA, Advocate Abdul Mateen Khan of Awami National Party (ANP), died due to cardiac arrest at the Polyclinic hospital in Islamabad on Thursday. He was 70.

The deceased suffered a heart attack a month ago and was admitted to Polyclinic hospital in the federal capital.

He was buried at his ancestral graveyard in his native town Bajakatta, Buner district on Thursday.

Thousands of party workers, key political leaders, government functionaries, judges, lawyers, elected public representatives and members of national and provincial assemblies attended his funeral prayer.

Late Mateen Khan was elected as independent MNA for the first time in 1990 general elections. He later on won the elections on the ANP ticket thrice in 1993, 1997 and 2002. His name was also recommended for state minister in the federal capital.

APP adds: Abdul Mateen Khan was born in Buner in 1944 and graduated from Jehanzeb College Saidu Sharif, Swat in 1967. He completed his masters in history from Punjab University in 1969.

He got his LLB degree from SM Law College, Karachi, and his masters in Political Science from the University of Karachi in 1971.

After completing his education, Mateen Khan joined the prosecution branch of police, but resigned after his elder brother joined the civil service in 1975. Mateen Khan later started practice of law. Late Abdul Mateen Khan is survived by a widow, four sons and three daughters. He joined the ANP in 1989.
