HYDERABAD, Oct 27: The central committee of Awami Tehrik has said that the present government’s policies are a continuation of what it termed anti-state and anti-people policies of Musharraf regime, which have pushed the country to the brink of bankruptcy.

The committee, which met here on Sunday, said that on the one hand acute shortage of water and wheat flour, price hike, unemployment and lawlessness had compelled the poor to auction their children in open bazaars and on the other the government had put the very existence of the country in danger by massacring innocent people in Wana, Waziristan and Swat.

The meeting condemned the utterances of government functionaries who were openly proclaiming that the war being waged by the American imperialism was their own war.

The meeting demanded that the massacre of innocent people, including women and children, should be stopped forthwith and the American and Nato forces should be withdrawn from Iraq and Afghanistan.

A peace army composed of army personnel from Islamic countries under the supervision of UNO and Shanghai Cooperation Organisation should be appointed in the two countries, the meeting suggested.

The meeting said that the capitalism had miserably failed as it had created a dangerous economic, political and social crisies throughout the world and believed that socialism offered the only panacea for all economic, political and social ills.

The meeting severely criticised one province’s control over distribution of resources and said that small provinces were being deprived of a judicious National Finance Commission Award, which should be announced on the basis of revenue generated by each federating unit and level of poverty.

The meeting decided to form committees comprising men, women and children tasked with creating educational awakening throughout the province and organising a debate on “Government is responsible for destruction of education”.

The party’s president Abdul Qadir Ranto presided over the meeting, which was also attended by party chief Rasool Bux Palijo, Abdul Hakim Halepoto, Syed Alam Shah, Gul Hassan Keerano and other central committee members.
