Nadra’s work affected

Published October 27, 2008

SIALKOT, Oct 26: The outdated computer system and staff shortage at the Nadra swift registration office in Daska is badly hampering its performance, causing great inconvenience to seekers of the computerized national identity card (CNIC).

Reports say that the five-year old computer system, covering about half portion of Daska’s only municipal library, has now literally become obsolete and is unable to meet the growing need. This computer system often encounters with ‘technical problems’ and technicians from Nadra provincial headquarters, Lahore, are called in for rectifying faults.

Although Daska is only about 100 kilometers from Lahore, it takes the technicians several days to reach here and do the needful.

The staff crunch is another hurdle in the way of smooth functioning of the swift registration office and every employee is overburdened despite the fact that several posts are lying vacant.

CNIC seekers have to wait for several hours because the Nadra has made no proper arrangements for the generator. When contacted, the Sialkot-based Nadra officials said that they had already intimated about these problems to their offices in Lahore and Islamabad.
